(Answer) The formulation has been changed starting spring 2009. The new and improved formulation has some physical and chemical differences.
The new and improved formulation contains less grain based fillers and more active ingredient. In the past customers may have noticed little pieces of grain or seeds in the product. We moved away from organic bacteria carriers and started using food grade carriers and blending agents, these agents will not add to the overall bio-load of the pond making the product more effective.
(Question) When I mix the new product with water it becomes frothy?
(Answer) The new and improved formulation also includes an active ingredient that will help oxidize organics and increase the overall dissolved oxygen levels in the pond helping to clear pond water.
(Question) When I add the product to the pond in the past the water became cloudy.
(Answer) The cloudiness is caused when SAB is added to a pond with neutral or acidic pH. Because the product was alkaline in the past, the pH in the area that the product is added would be quickly increased causing precipitation and short term cloudiness. We lowered the pH of the product to lessen possible problems caused by a quick jump in pH. This is generally not a problem in larger ponds, but when added to smaller ponds could cause stress to fish and plants.
(Question) Is the product as effective as in the past?
(Answer) The new and improved version of SAB should be as effective as or more effective than in the past. The product now contains more activated ingredient without all of the organic fillers that were included in past production. Anything organic that is added to the pond adds to the overall bio-load, unless the organics provide a viable function they are not necessary and should be avoided. The addition of an oxidizer should also help clear the pond quickly.
(Question) How long does SAB take to start working?
(Answer) The new and improved version of SAB works by eliminating the food source that causes unsightly water conditions. SAB will go to work as soon as it’s added to the pond, how fast you see results is totally dependent on how much problem causing nutrient is currently in the water column. Typically you should see results in a few days although results may take up to two weeks.
